A guide for water treatment operators in Port Harcourt and the Niger Delta: high water table, iron and acidity, humidity, flooding and access.

Port Harcourt and the wider Niger Delta share a wet, low-lying environment. This guide is general; conditions differ from site to site and it is not regulatory advice.

## The water

The Niger Delta has a **high water table** and abundant rain. Groundwater in the region is often reported to be **iron-rich and acidic** in places, which means rust-coloured water, staining, corrosion of pipes and fittings, and filters that clog. Typical answers include aeration and iron filters, pH correction and sediment filtration, followed by disinfection and, where needed, RO. Because these conditions vary, **test every source** for pH, iron and turbidity and keep the readings in a log: see [water quality log](https://aquasops.com/guides/water-quality-log).

## Corrosion and humidity

Acidic water and humid air are hard on metal. Inspect fittings, valves and control panels for corrosion on every visit, and record what you replaced. Note which parts fail early at each site; that history guides your stock.

## Rain and flooding

Heavy rain and flooding can cut access, wash sediment into sources and flood plant rooms. Keep plant equipment raised where possible, tell customers about your visit windows, and use priorities so urgent faults jump the queue. See [job management](https://aquasops.com/features/job-management).

## Customers

Typical customers include estates, offices, hospitals, schools and industrial sites. Industrial and oil-service customers often ask for documented records of every visit: a [service report](https://aquasops.com/features/job-management) with readings, photos and a signature makes that easy.

## Power and connectivity

Generators are common and mobile data can be poor at some sites, so an [offline technician app](https://aquasops.com/features/technician-app) keeps visits recorded.

## Planning your work

Use [maintenance plans](https://aquasops.com/features/maintenance-plans) with shorter filter intervals where iron is heavy, and check pre-filters by pressure drop. See how often to service an RO plant.

## Questions and answers

What water problems are common in the Niger Delta?

A high water table, and groundwater that is often reported as iron-rich and acidic in places. That makes pH correction, iron removal and corrosion control important. Test each source rather than assuming.
