This guide gives operators context for water treatment work in Nigeria. It is general and not legal or regulatory advice; check current rules with the relevant regulator before you rely on anything here.

## Where the water comes from

Many homes, estates, schools, hotels and factories depend on **boreholes** because public supply is limited or unreliable in many areas. Others use municipal or state water boards, tankers, wells and rainwater. Each source brings different problems: iron and sediment, hardness, salinity in coastal areas, or microbiological contamination. Treatment plants (sediment and carbon filters, softeners, RO, UV and chlorination) are therefore very common in Nigerian businesses. See the [borehole treatment](https://aquasops.com/industries/borehole-treatment) and [RO plant](https://aquasops.com/industries/ro-plants) pages.

## Standards and regulators

The **Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)** publishes the Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality, and **NAFDAC** regulates packaged (bottled and sachet) water. States have their own water boards and regulatory bodies, and environmental rules are handled by agencies such as NESREA. Which rules apply depends on what the water is used for. If you are unsure, check with the regulator or an adviser; do not guess.

## Payments and money

Customers commonly pay by bank transfer, card and cash. Matching transfers to invoices by hand is slow, so many companies put a payment link on the invoice. Keep records exact in naira and decide how VAT applies with your accountant. [AquaOps](https://aquasops.com/features/invoicing-and-online-payments) supports naira invoices, Paystack payments and manual recording of cash, transfer, POS and cheque payments.

## Power and connectivity

Grid power is often unreliable, so pumps and treatment plants run on generators, inverters or solar, and power cuts are hard on pumps and pressure switches: inspect protection devices and record the power source at each visit. Mobile data is patchy inside buildings and at rural sites, which is why [offline technician apps](https://aquasops.com/features/technician-app) matter.

## Seasons

Rainy and dry seasons change demand and source quality, and harmattan dust in the dry season can load tanks and filters with sediment. Book pre-filter checks and tank cleaning ahead of the dry season and after heavy rains. Maintenance plans help you spread this work: see [maintenance plans](https://aquasops.com/features/maintenance-plans).

## Questions and answers

Which bodies set water standards in Nigeria?

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) publishes standards including the Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality, and NAFDAC regulates packaged water. Rules also vary by state, so check with the regulator that applies to your use.

How do Nigerian customers pay for water treatment services?

Commonly by bank transfer, card and cash. Paystack payment pages cover card and transfer in naira, and companies still need to record cash and POS payments.
